ROLES

Let’s Collaborate

I am putting together some final pieces for a training project and need some personal video narratives from residents. Think of these as things you’d see on TikTok or Instagram.

Project Background

The training scenario takes place in a fictional US state (Carolinas climate) that is going through some devastating weather events–among several other disasters. The running theme is a lot of rain, flooding, and excessive heat. The goal is to make the crises come to life to provide a realistic environment for the students who navigate the training.

Compensation

$20 via Venmo on delivery.

Delivery Format

Cellphone video is perfectly fine. I don’t want overly polished and produced. I’ll take vertical or horizontal–whatever you feel captures the part.

Just remember the scenario takes place in the heat of the summer in rainy conditions. (i.e. I can’t use a video that has a snowman chilling in the background.)

Creativity

Candid is the theme of the day. I have provided scripts of what I want the message of the video to be. By all means, ad lib your way through the lines and own the character.

There’s a very good chance I will pay a few of you to submit more videos as a ‘series’. I will reach out individually.

Process

Read through the roles and feel free to email your interest or submit a video for anything you’re interested in. I can’t promise that I will use what you submit, but you have my word that I will reach out.

Hey everyone, it’s been a minute, but I just wanted to share what’s been going on.

Honestly, it was as bad as they said it would be. We thought we’d be fine, you know? Our home felt safe, and we didn’t see the need to leave.

But when the flood hit, it was wild and fast. The water just kept rising, and before we knew it, we were crawling onto our roof.

We waited there for 8 hours to be rescued, and just like that—everything we had is gone. Our house is still underwater.

This is what we saw as we left in the rescue boat. [I will drop in video of severe residential flooding here.]

Gosh, I just don’t know where to go from here. We’re starting over from nothing.

It’s so overwhelming. I’m glad we’re OK, but this couldn’t get any worse.

Script Suggestion

So I woke up this morning with my apartment filled with smoke. All of the alarms were disorienting, and it took a few minutes to figure out I wasn’t still dreaming.

I opened the front door, and the hallway was filled with thick smoke, and I could hear screaming from neighbors.

I grabbed my phone and ran for the stairs, but the smoke was so heavy. Just when I thought I was trapped, I saw the lights of the fire trucks outside.

Those firefighters were like superheroes. They rushed in and helped me and my neighbors get out safely. They guided us down the stairs and into the fresh air. I was shaking but so relieved to be alive.

It’s unreal how quickly everything can change. We lost so much, but I’m just grateful to be here and so thankful for the firefighters who saved us. I really don’t know what I would have done without them. You guys are true heroes!

Script Suggestion

Hey everyone! I’m out here in Kingston with Team Columbia Strong, and we’re filling sandbags to help keep our neighborhoods safe from the flooding.

It’s been all hands on deck, but we really need more people to join us—every pair of hands makes a difference!

If you can spare even an hour, we could really use your help.

We’re working hard to protect homes and keep everyone safe.

It’s a great way to meet some awesome neighbors and show that we’re all in this together.

So grab your gloves, maybe a shovel, and come down to help out!

Let’s make sure we’re ready for whatever comes next. Together, we can do this!

Script Suggestion

Has anyone else noticed that the water coming out of the tap looks kind of weird? [I will drop video of dirty tap water]

I mean, it’s not clear like it usually is. It’s super unsettling, especially with this boil water advisory going on.

I’ve been boiling water for everything—cooking, drinking, even brushing my teeth. But it still makes me nervous. Does boiling actually make it any safer?

I just want to make sure my family is safe. If you’ve heard anything about this or have any tips on how to deal with it, let me know! I’m just trying to figure out what’s going on here. Stay safe, everyone!

Script Suggestion

I’m struggling to find the words to say right now. It’s been the most difficult 24 hours of my life.

I got a call from the police last night, saying they believe they recovered the body of my mother from the river. I rushed out to the scene, and confirmed it was her.

The rescue crew told us that she was driving home when she tried to drive through standing water on the road.

Her car got swept off the road and fell into the river. They described how quickly it all happened—it was terrifying.

They said they tried to get to her, but the current was just too strong.

It feels so surreal to think about, knowing she was out there alone with no way for me to reach her. I wasn’t there to help her, and I keep thinking about how scary that must have been for her.

Hearing the stories from those rescue teams has been heartbreaking, but it also makes me realize how fragile life is.

I wish I could have been there for her, or that I could tell her one more time how much I loved her. Everyone just needs to hold their loved ones a little closer right now.

Script Suggestion

Seriously, everyone is making such a big deal about this heat! It’s just a little bit of sun.

I mean, yeah, I’m feeling kind of terrible, but that’s what happens when you put in hard work, right? It’s all part of the deal!

I don’t need to stop every 30 seconds to drink water. Can’t we just get this done?

I’m here sweating it out, but you know what? When this is all wrapped up, i’ll be kicking back with a cold beer and will be proud of what I accomplished.

All this talk about heat exhaustion and hydration is just an excuse to be lazy. This world is filled with melted snowflakes who think the world exists to serve them.

Just seems overblown to me! Let’s just get the work done. That’s how you feel good at the end of the day!
